A series of wildfires have burned more than 2000 acres of land across Northwest Missouri recently, causing destruction and fear to residents of the area.
The two wildfires, named the Highway V and Highway EE fires, were ignited by lightning strikes, and quickly spread due to high winds and dry conditions. At its peak, the Highway V fire had burned over 1750 acres of land, while the Highway EE fire burned more than 300 acres.
The Missouri Department of Conservation responded to the fire by sending firefighters, heavy equipment, and aircraft to help battle the flames. Over the course of the next week, the firefighters managed to contain the fire, and after a few days of monitoring, they declared the fire extinguished.
Residents of the area are now beginning the process of cleanup and rebuilding. The Missouri Department of Conservation is providing assistance for those affected by the fires, as well as resources to help prevent future fires from occurring.
