COVID-19: NYC Workers Get Vaccinated or Take Weekly Tests As Delta Spikes | NBC New York
Mayor Bill de Blasio extended New York City’s vaccination mandate to include all urban workers on Monday. Starting this fall, employees who have not provided evidence of the COVID-19 vaccination will have to test for the virus on a weekly basis. Unvaccinated workers have until September 13 to complete their vaccination series or to opt for a virus test each week. But before that deadline comes, the mayor said unvaccinated workers must wear masks when working from August 2nd. The new vaccination mandate begins with city workers who work in community facilities. This group, approximately 45,000 workers, must start testing weekly if they have not received their dose of the vaccine by August 16. “This is about our recovery. It’s about keeping people safe and making sure our families get through COVID well. ”“ Said de Blasio. “September is the lynchpin of the recovery, in September many employers bring back many of their employees. Then the schools start at full speed, it is when the people come back from the summer.” .
